Who: While performing these interviews, I noticed several groups of people who I originally thought would perfectly fit my market, but stated that they would not be interested and would not utilize such a service. To reiterate on what my service is: I would plan to create an app/website which will allow people to post their available parking on game days, allowing those who are trying to purchase parking to find spots (and those who are trying to sell parking gain traction to their spot). Two of the students I interviewed said that while they do sell their parking on game days (and make hundred's of dollars doing so), they would not use the service. I was surprised as they seemed as if they would be my ideal market (live close to campus, in an apartment with ample extra parking spots to sell). However, they cited that they never have trouble getting their spots to fill up, because of their location on campus. They are so close that people will find them no matter what, and they do not need to give a cut of their money to a service like mine, which they felt they don't need.
I also interviewed a student who has family which attend some of the games. She said that her family members would not utilize this, as they often arrive early to the games and do not rely on paying for parking.
The final two people I interviewed, two fraternity students walking by, said that they thought my service would end up lowering the prices of parking. They said that they are able to charge 35$ per parking spot, but that my service may allow those people to find spots at a cheaper rate, forcing the fraternity to lower their rates. They believe that if people are stressed trying to find parking, and do not know their way around campus, they would be more likely to pay their high parking rates.
What: These interviews helped me to identify that there is not necessarily a need for parking, but a need for knowledge of parking spots. Therefore, the prices that people charge for parking may have to go down if people realize that there is more parking available.
Why: Most of the people who were outside my boundary were those who attended the games, but did not utilize non-campus parking. A large portion of people who attend the games will be able to find on campus spots, and wouldn't need this service.
