1) You
I am Schuyler, a 3rd year computer science student at the University of Florida. I have a lot of experience with computers, having been using them since a child (and programming since I was 13). I would say that I have good experience talking to people. Both my father and my stepfather own their own businesses, so I have been around entrepreneurial ventures for most of my life. I aspire to be successful, and to create a business that utilizes my skills and talents. If I were to start a service which links together parking spot sellers at UF with traveling fans, it would certainly play a big role in my life. As a computer science student, programming the app/website would be a good challenge, and would help me hone in on my skills.
2) What are you offering to customers?
I am creating a service which allows people to advertise their parking spots on UF campus. This would play a large role in parking during UF football games, as people are often forced to pay for parking at off campus locations, like Apartments or Fraternity/Sorority houses. This service would allow people to see all available spots, and reserve them (by paying online). My profit would come from a small (~5%) cut from each of the parking sales, alongside revenue from Ads on the website/app.
3) Who are you offering it to?
There are two primary users of this app: people who are selling spots (and want to advertise their location), and people who are in need of parking during UF football games.
4) Why do they care?
Many people who attend these games are new to the UF campus, and may not know their way around campus. They would be required to find on campus parking, which often fills up quickly on these busy game days. Therefore, these people will usually end up paying $30-35 to park at an off campus apartment complex/house. It would be much easier for those attending the games to have a service which allows them to see where available parking is, and possibly reserve the parking in advance. On the other side, people who are selling parking may not necessarily live right next to campus, and it is down to luck whether their spots get found. These people would want to gain more traction t o their spots, and my service would allow them to do that.
5) What are your core competencies?
I am knowledgeable in Computer Science, which would allow me to properly create the app in a nice and efficient format, making it easy to use for users. I also have a good knowledge of what the environment is like at UF during these hectic game days, and how my opportunity will succeed because of that.
I believe that all of these elements fit together well. My service essentially is dual sided, one being utilized by sellers and one being utilized by buyers. Both sides are going to be engaging in this process, and there is no reason for them not to utilize a service like this. My competencies will allow me to succeed in this opportunity. None of the aspects are out-of-joint, in my opinion.

Schuyler,
ReplyDeleteMy service also is providing something for both buyers and sellers of a service. I think having this happen adds an extra element to both of our business models because it allows for us to focus on having two separate groups or audiences that we have to please making us go over each element more carefully than a service that might only be offering something to a customer not a seller as well.
